my first year in college

Westphal Awards Ceremony. Pictured with me (left to right) are Gracelynn, Emily, and Geovanna! <3

My last post sounded uncertain.

I was unconfident in who I was and my capabilities.

Reaching the end of this semester felt like it wouldn’t have come for a long time, but after 16 short weeks of school, it’s finally over. My freshman year is over.

How do I summarize this semester? How do can I convey three months' worth of content in a way that can be amusing to you — make this worth your time…

It is currently 9:51 AM, May 7th, 2021 as I write this sentence. I’m on an airplane, on the way back home.

The seat to the left to me is vacant, and to the right is the glorious view of misty white clouds.

If I knew then what I knew now — the precious friendships, worship nights, spontaneous trips —

oh how blessed was my first year, and how sweet is this life that God has given me.

I got out of my comfort zone. Touched a net, the volleyball net, the basketball net — that’s right. I do sports now. I never realized how fun sports can be with friends.

Geo, Gracelyn, Kaitlyn, Emily & Rebecca… you guys have a big fat piece of my heart. Thank you for being amazing.

Empire SPIKES BACK!

This semester was spent ‘scream laughing (oh if you haven’t heard me laugh yet… you are truly missing out. and I mean laugh), singing in the car, hectic dress shopping, culture project stressing, and I don’t regret a second of it.

I nerded out. My new goal to keep myself in shape + my countless hours studying + NEW JOB = a glorious repetitive strain injury on my wrist.

I type too much. My neck hurts. I’m starting to get hunchback. Welcome to being a writer, folks.

In my last post, I talked about not being able to make any friends. As an update, I made friends!

Amazing, beautiful, crazy cool friends. I’m so thankful to each and every one of them for making life seem less hectic.

However, I do need to give credit to where credit is due.

Rebecca has been (and always will be) my roommate/sister/best friend this year, and man, I truly cherish our times together.

AKA.. she is THE PACKAGE. I mean, who can ever beat this roommate duo?

Our last night in our dorm together :(

Thank you for handling my random outbursts, dumbfounded moments, and allowing me to watch Harry Potter for the first time with you.

Thank you for also handling me, because I’m a lot. Cheers to you, Rebecca. FISH.

This year, by the grace of God, I experienced living in AZ. Despite the insane weather that by no means is a match to my home, I think it comes a close second to being home.

Although... if my dog somehow transported to AZ, then it would be home.

There’s turbulence. I’m currently listening to Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67: II. Andante con moto.

Classy music for the girl sitting in coach.

I’m saddened that this year went by so quickly. That means that I’m three years closer to actually having to ‘adult’, and that does not seem like a lot of time.

However, I’m not shaken. God has provided so much for me over this year, and so I trust Him completely.

Sundays were the best days. I got to see Peyton, go to church, and eat steak.

Mondays were even better - slept in, and worked.

Tuesday - Thursday, was grind time.

Friday’s were when I got down and dirty, kept my dorm clean as can be.

Saturday was restful, leisurely bliss.

If I were to choose a worship song for this semester? Worthy by Elevation.

Worthy is Your name, Jesus.

You deserve the praise, worthy is Your name.
